Cute birthday themes anyone?

Whoa I am down to just 2 months till my little baby will be one! ONE??? I can't belive how fast it has gone by! (AND I really need to update my blog with all our exciting happenings the past 2 months. . . but not tonight.)

Tonight I am in dire need of advice. I've been sitting at the computer googling for over an hour trying to find the perfect birthday theme for Crew's 1st birthday. Then I suddenly had an inspiration to ask the blogging world what would you do?

Any great ideas with pics??? I know for sure it's going to be outside by the pool and we're going to barbeque. There will be all ages of adults and children, swimming, eating, maybe some fun little games. . . And that's where the creativity ends. :) Your help would be awesome! Thanks!

Wow, I can't believe he's gonna be one already! That's amazing! Well, I have a couple game ideas suitable for young kids and adults. An underwater/pirate theme could be fun!

(1) Kids usually like the one where they go fishing for prizes, etc with a magnet on the end of the pole.
(2) kids or adults fish out as many marbles as they can in 45 seconds (with their toes) from a kiddy pool. It really is super fun!
(3) Anything with waterballoons is usually awesome. Like a waterballoon toss, where the partners have to step further and further back with each catch. Eventually you miss or drop the balloon.
(4) An Ice cube race where there are 2 or more teams and each team is given 1 ice cube. The player with the ice cube runs to a point and back while rubbing the ice cube on their neck etc (not allowed in mouth or pants) then passes to the next team member. The team that melts their ice cube the fastest wins.
(5) If you do an underwater theme it would be cute to have a treasure chest with either prizes or food. Or a cake shaped like a treasure chest. Other decoration could include sea shells, star fish, sea horse, sharks, pirates, parrot.
(6) I've never done it, but you can buy molds for candy making. You could make candies in shapes that match your theme to give out as party favors. (Or look for cookie cutters)

I hope that all makes sense and is helpful. I'll let you know if I think of anything else! Good luck planning!

It's good you have that much time because you'll be able to order stuff from the states. I wish I would have had time to plan something other than a BBQ. Oriental trading post has great stuff no matter what your theme is. I think an underwater or animal theme would be really cute.

I haven't done anything cute for either of my kids' first birthdays (bad mom!). I don't think you need a theme but here is my idea...maybe you could make it an AMERICAN theme and do good ol' american bbq, apple pie, cute little games, that cake with strawberries and blueberries in the flag pattern. But really, anything you do will be so fun and cute. I'll keep thinking!

My sister did this Ice Treasures thing with her kids, and I did it with Carson when he turned 3. I used little tupperware so I could fit about 10 of them in my freezer and it took some time and kept all the little kids (and moms) occupied!
Good luck planning the party!
